Three groups make up the framework of Banqiao New Town
The construction of Banqiao New Town is an important part of the
Southward-expanding Project of the main urban area of Nanjing.
According to the overall plan, Banqiao New Town has a total area of
60.5 sq.km, and it reaches New Qinhuai River to the north,
Nanjing-Ma’anshan Expressway to its east, the Yangtze River to its
west, and Jiangning River to its south. The construction is divided
into three groups. The Southwest group mainly refers to the Baogang
Group and Yuhua Development Zone southeast of 205 National Highway,
with a planned construction area of 25sq.km. The “Green Nanjing”
group is located on both sides of the Third Yangtze River Bridge,
centering around the “Green Nanjing” Forest Park, with an area of
about 10sq.km. The Northeast group mainly covers the residential
area and the matching shopping area northeast of 205 National
Highway, with an area of 25sq.km.
The Northeast group starts up earlier
The main function of the Northeast group that starts up earlier
is habitation, with a planned population of 200,000. The
construction includes dwellings, large-scale commercial
establishments, office buildings, activity center for callan,
gymnasiums, swimming pools etc., which share part of the commercial,
cultural and physical exercise functions of the new Town.
The whole layout of the Northeast group can be summarized into
“One center, two belts and three zones”, i.e. to build a public
activity center composed of the central park of new town as well as
commercial and cultural establishments centering around the Shizha
Lake, to build green belts along Nanjing-Ma’anshan Expressway and
Nanjing-Wuhu Expressway, and to build the three habitation zones of
Huanhe residential area, Hudong residential area and Lvzhou
residential area. The Northeast group is developed by stages, and
the first-phase project is located south of the No. 3 planned road,
north of the No.8 Road, east of Nanjing-Wuhu Railway and west of
Nanjing-Ma’anshan Expressway, with a construction area of 4sq.
km.
In the 1st stage of the Northeast group, the residential area and
its scenic area with an area of 2 sq. km will be developed first,
including the Shizha Lake and its surrounding land of 1sq.km and
part of the Hudong residential area of 1sq. km. Within the year
2005, the preparation for publicly listing 800 units of land will be
completed step by step.
Banqiao New Town will take on a brand-new look by the year
2012
By the end of 2005, such important civil engineering works of
Banqiao Avenue, East of Lvzhou Road, Jiangda Road and Hujing Road
will be finished completely and the Shizha Lake will gradually come
into form. According to the plan, the Shizha Lake scenic area will
be completed at the end of 2006. By the end of 2007, the residential
area of the 1st stage of the Northeast group will be basically
finished, and the second-stage construction for infrastructures will
be started at the same time. By the end of 2008, the 4-km
development zone of the 1st stage will be totally finished. By the
year 2012, all the construction within 9.1sq.km of the Northeast
group will be completed. Banqiao New Town will greet citizens with a
beautiful and modern look.
