Nanjing, called Jinling in ancient times, is the
capital of Jiangsu province. It enjoys a long history and a
reputation of “The capital of ten dynasties”. Dr. Sun Yat-sen once
described Nanjing in his STRATEGIES OF ESTABILISHING THE STATE as, “
Situated in a perfect area, Nanjing combines such three wonders of
nature as high mountains & deep water, plains, and forests as a
whole. The extraordinary situation of Nanjing cannot be matched by
any other city in the world”. Blended with mountains & water,
urban areas and forests, Nanjing is a key tourist city in China.
Standing on a riverbank not far away from the sea on the lower
reaches of the Yangtze River, Nanjing enjoys an advantageous
geographical situation. With the first-grade Lukou International
Airport, Nanjing boasts a full range of such five transportation

Yuhuatai District: Situated in the southwestern
suburbs of Nanjing, an ancient capital of six dynasties, Yuhuatai
District is always deemed the “Southern Gate” to Jinling (i.e.
Nanjing). Geographically, this district lies right at the crossing
of eastern longitude 118º and northern latitude 32º, belonging to a
northern sub-tropical humid climate with a clear division of four
seasons, abundant sunlight, 230 non-frost days, an annual average
temperature of 15.3ºC and an annual average rainfall of 1033 mm.
Covering an area of nearly 134.2 sq. km, this district has under its
jurisdiction the Rain Flower Economic & Technological
Development Zone and seven neighborhood committees, with a total
population of 183 thousand. In 2004, this district achieved a GDP of
3.76 billion RMB yuan and a revenue of 1.12 billion RMB yuan.
History & Culture: Yuhuatai District is endowed
with an agreeable climate, fertile land, beautiful scenery and
numerous historical relics. According to a legend, when Master
Yunguang, a famous monk in the Liang Dynasty, gave a sutra here, the
gods in the heaven, moved by his sutra, dropped flowers to him. The
flowers were drifting down like a rain, from which Yuhuatai has got
its name. Yuhuatai District claims ten scenic spots among
forty-eight scenic spots of Jinling (Nanjing). Among them are the
well-known Rain Flower Martyr Memorial Park, Chrysanthemum Terrace,
Longquan Temple, Tomb of Borneo King and General Mountain.
Regional Transportation: Yuhuatai District
enjoys perfect infrastructures, developed transportation of water,
land and air and an advantageous investment environment. The
People’s Government of this District stands only 3 km from the
downtown, 8 km from Xinshengxu Port, the biggest inland foreign
trade port of the Yangtze River, and 20 km from the newly-built
Lukou International Airport. With the Yangtze River to its north,
the New Qinhuai River to its south, this district is run through by
such ten main roads as Nanjing-Wuhu Railway, Nanjing-Wuhu,
Nanjing-Danyang, Nanjing-Lishui, Nanjing-Ma’anshan, and Urban Belt
Highways and Southern Zhongshan, New Airport, Weiba and Weijiu
Roads. Saihong Intersection Bridge, the largest urban intersection
bridge in China, has been built in this district. The construction
of Nanjing Metro Terminal and the Third Yangtze River Bridge has
been started in this district. The construction of Southern Railway
Station, still in plan, will also be started in this district, which
will enable the distance from Nanjing to Shanghai to be covered
within two hours. This district has become an important carrier of a
combination of development factors.
Inhabitation Environment: Yuhuatai District
possesses a first-grade inhabitation environment thanks to its green
hills & clear water, rich historical relics, afforestation
coverage of over 46% and afforestation rate of over 25.1%. Niushou,
Jiangjun and Hanfu Mountains in this district still keep a good
natural vegetation; the New Qinhuai River, with a pleasant scenery
on both of its sides, is a “virgin land” rarely to be found in any
other prosperous metropolis. The Southern Nanjing New District, one
of the best top-grade residential areas in Nanjing, is situated in
this district, housing the top-grade villa area developed by
Singaporean Yanlord Group and two national Well-off Inhabitation
Demonstration Communities. It is an ideal residential area for

composed of the Rain Flower Economy and Technology Development Zone

district, mainly composed of the Xishan Bridge and Tiexin Bridge

South to North Passage: from Yuhuatai Scenic Spot in the north to
Jiangjun Mountain in the south); 2. East to West Passage: the New
Qinhuai River.
